ir has an empty IR stem. As a result, some verb forms are no more than endings, for example iré, iría, ido, and of course the infinitive ir.

All present indicative forms are exceptions, but they also follow a pattern: it's almost as if ir had an irregular stem v- that took regular AR endings in the present indicative.
